New Web site features 'plastic surgery tourism' guidelines

Article-New Web site features 'plastic surgery tourism' guidelines

New York — The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) has launched its new Web site — www.isaps.org — with the publication of the first-ever international guidelines for “plastic surgery tourism,” geared for consumers traveling for plastic-surgery procedures.

The ISAPS guidelines, in development for nearly a year, were created to address the thousands of inquiries ISAPS has received from consumers, medical professionals, the media and governmental organizations, an ISAPS spokesman says. The guidelines are aimed at providing consumers with information that will help them gauge the extent to which a doctor is appropriately trained and certified for the procedure they are considering undergoing.

The ISAPS guidelines were developed under the direction of Malcolm Paul, M.D., clinical professor of surgery, Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Institute, University of California, Irvine.
